Feeling Awkward…?

Happy Awkward Moments Day

Confession… I feel much of my life is strung together with awkward moments. As a not-very-graceful-nerdy-shy-introvert I experience more than my fair share of awkward moments and… I have learned to lean into them.

When we are feeling awkward it may be because we are outside of our comfort zone, when we are trying something new or facing uncertain or ambiguous situations. It is in these moments that we learn. It is in these moments that, if we can hold them lightly and not take ourselves too seriously, that we laugh and we connect with other people and new ideas.

When was the last time you felt awkward… if it’s been a while, today may be your day to try it on and try something new. Something that you are not already good at, something for the first time, something that might even make you cringe.

If you feel awkward about feeling awkward, I recommend Melissa Dahl’s fabulous book “Cringeworthy: A Theory of Awkwardness”.

Thank you to Michael Kerr for pointing out the significance of today and for always being game to lean into those awkward moments.
